The winner of our holiday snapshot contest

- COURTESY OF CAROL BUTLER
Three sisters: The Mickey Mouse Club had just appeared in 1955 and my two sisters and I became the Three Mouseketeers with our Micky Mouse club “getups,” complete with little guns. This photo is precious to me because we were equally excited about being a part of The Mickey Mouse Club and equally taken with having our very own record player. We spent hours enthralled with the magic of sound; music and voices, being heard when a needle touched vinyl. I’m in the middle. On the left is Ann, and on the right is Katherine, who I called Little Katherine most of her life. She is no longer with us. This photo by my father, Charles King, seems to me to be the marking our lifelong love of music, dance and theatrics. It was a day three sisters bonded. Carol Butler Lake Wylie

For the second year in a row, we asked readers to share their old Christmas snapshots for our Faith & Values section holiday contest. As much as we love the photos, the simple stories are even more powerful.

It was hard to pick a winner, but we loved this shot of three little girls marveling over a toy, its connection to the emerging technology of television, and what it would come to signify in their lives. Take lots of pictures this Christmas.
