Samantha is a writer and stylist with a love for pretty details. She took her trip down the aisle in June 2013 and is now living the married life in Charlotte's South End. Samantha can be reached here.

Between the mistletoe hanging overhead, cozy fireplaces crackling with warmth and twinkling lights draped over the trees, the holiday season truly sets the tone for a perfect proposal. There is something magical about this time of the year and it's no wonder that it's one of the most popular times to get engaged. With Christmas and New Year's rapidly approaching I thought it would be an excellent time to give some tips on keeping your hands in tip top shape. Whether you are hoping for a proposal of your own or already engaged and will be around a lot of family and friends, your left hand could be the center of attention.

All winter long you should be diligent about moisturizing your hands with a good hand cream. The cold winter months can be harsh on our skin and cause hands to be dry and flakey. Keep a hand cream in your purse, next to your bed or wherever you'll remember to apply it a few times a day. I like L'Occitance en Provence's Shea Butter Hand Cream the best because it smells great and makes my hands feel absolutely heavenly.

Another step in keeping your hands healthy and beautiful is cuticle care. Essie's Apricot Cuticle Oil is a must have for soft, nourishing moisture to your cuticles. Massage it into your cuticles once a day whenever your cuticles are starting to dry.

Every girl knows the power of a pretty polish. Whether you opt for a natural color or one of this season's popular color trends, you'll want to keep your nails polished and chip-free. Make sure you apply a base and top-coat to keep the polishing from chipping (that's not cute). My current favorites are "Shearling Darling" and "Sable Collar" from Essie's 2013 Winter Collection.

Hands, like most things in life, need to be accessorized. A cute pair of gloves is the perfect addition to any outfit, not to mention they protect your hands from the harsh cold and keep them toasty warm. Do yourself a favor and invest in a pair of leather gloves. Not only is leather extremely on trend, it's also classic and very versatile. You can dress them up or dress them down and they are sure to make you look chic while keeping you warm. For me, fun wooly gloves are also a necessity.
