Charlotte school evacuated after suspicious package found in commons area

A Charlotte high school was evacuated as a precaution Saturday morning after a school employee spotted a suspicious package in a common area on school property.

Patrol officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the 9:51 a.m. call at Ardrey Kell High School at 10220 Ardrey Kell Road.

Following the evacuation the police department bomb squad unit responded. Technicians with the squad determined that there was no threat to public safety and the school was reopened, authorities said.

There were no injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
