More than 1,500 without power in McAdenville

The Christmas light spectacle in McAdenville might end early tonight with a power outage in the town.

The Duke Energy website shows more than 1,500 outages in the town. A Duke spokesman was not immediately available to comment on when power might return.

An accident on U.S. 74/29 near McAdenville took down some power lines, which is probably the cause of the outages, the N.C. Department of Transportation said in a release.

That road is closed, the N.C. DOT said, and is expected to reopen about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Drivers should use caution in the area and watch out for officers directing traffic.
