Concord Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal hit and run Sunday outside of a Mexican restaurant.

Juan Antonio Torres Jr., 50, of 52 Academy Ave. NW in Concord, was fatally struck by a vehicle at 2:06 a.m. Sunday near 363 Concord Parkway North, near the entrance of El Patron.

Police arrested Darrin Eugene Edwards, 48 on Sunday morning at his home on Blue Sky Drive NW in Concord in connection with the incident, Concord Police said. Police charged Edwards with one count of felony hit and run and one count of misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Edwards was operating a 2014 Jeep Cherokee at the time he struck Torres, said police.

Concord Police believe alcohol is a factor. They are waiting on blood alcohol concentration lab results, police said.

Edwards is in Cabarrus County Jail under a $100,000 bond. His first appearance in Cabarrus County District Court will be on Monday, police said.
