Vehicle hits three pedestrians in Cornelius

Three pedestrians were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after Cornelius police said they were hit by a vehicle.

The pedestrians were struck shortly after 4:30 p.m. near the police station on Catawba Avenue in Cornelius, said police spokeswoman Betsy Shores. It’s unclear at this time whether they were in a cross walk, but Shores said it was a mother and her two children that were hit.

Shores said all the injuries were minor, though information from Medic – which transported all three to Carolinas Medical Center – indicated one person was seriously injured.

A formal report will be ready by early next week, Shores said, adding if any charges are brought against the driver, they would likely be traffic-related, not criminal.
