Motorists are finding few problems on Charlotte-area roads at 8:35 a.m. Monday.
Only one collision has been reported on a major highway. It is on northbound Interstate 85 in eastern Gaston County, between Lowell and Belmont. Traffic is snarled badly in the area.
The traffic volume remains light at this time, and with school not in session and a number of people taking holiday vacations, congestion might not be quite as big a problem as usual.
The 8:35 a.m. update:
I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).
I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 mph from George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) down to Mallard Creek Church Road (Exit 46).
I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.
I-85 northbound, Gaston County ... Wreck between Exit 23 (Lowell-McAdenville) and Exit 26 (Belmont Abbey); traffic snarled for about 4 miles.
