Woman dead, man hurt in Anson County shootings

Anson County authorities say they have arrested a suspect in connection with a double shooting that left a woman dead early Monday.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody several hours after the shootings at a home in the eastern part of the county.

The shootings were reported about 3:30 a.m. at a single-story residence on Branch Street, which runs parallel to U.S. 74 east of Lilesville. That is not far from the Pee Dee River and the Richmond County line.

A woman, identified by the sheriff’s office as Dorian Miles, 32, of Polkton, died at the scene. Authorities say 33-year-old Hasson Mohammad Pressley was shot in the chest. He was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, authorities say.

Investigators say they believe the suspect and the victims knew each other. They had been together at some type of social gathering before the shooting, authorities say.
