Monroe police arrested a man this week in the Nov. 16 shooting death of Jimmie Taylor, 62.
Taylor was shot in his apartment at 2511 Riverside Lane, police said.
Police on Thursday said they arrested Clifton Carnise Rushing of Monroe and charged him with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Rushing was served the warrant while he was being held in the Union County Jail on unrelated charges, police said. He is in jail with no bond.
Monroe police received assistance from State Bureau of Investigation, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and the Union County District Attorney’s Office.
“It was important for us to close this case and deliver closure to the Taylor family,” Interim Police Chief Bryan Gilliard said in a statement. “I appreciate the hard work of our detectives and officers along with the Sheriff’s Office, SBI and District Attorney’s Office, all who worked diligently to gather the evidence that eventually led to the charges filed against Mr. Rushing.”
