Mooresville man charged with burning home, boat and flag

A Mooresville man was arrested and charged with first-degree arson and other offenses this week in the burning of a home, boat and N.C. flag along his and another road.

Franklin Deepree Donaldson, 51, of Neill Farm Road also was charged with one count each of burning a boat, burning personal property, larceny and damage to personal property.

At one home, Iredell County sheriff’s investigators said Thursday, a man removed an N.C. flag from the front porch, placed it in a trash can and set the flag and trash can on fire.

A home and boat also were burned on Graycliff Drive, near Perth Road at Lake Norman, investigators said.

Donaldson was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond pending a court appearance.

The Sheriff’s Office said it’s also investigating the burning of a Graycliff community sign and Christmas decorations on the sign.
