Man charged in Lincoln truck theft

LINCOLNTON A Sherrills Ford man has been charged in connection with the theft of a truck from a Lincoln County business, authorities say.

Daniel Sherrill, 27, was arrested Thursday after an investigation that began after the theft nearly three months ago.

Investigators say fingerprints led them to a suspect in the case.

Authorities say officials at Dellinger Precast, on N.C. 16 in Denver, reported the truck missing Oct. 11. On Nov. 1, the missing truck and a stolen trailer were found on Buffalo Shoals Road and appeared to have been wrecked, authorities say.

Detectives took several items from the vehicle and examined them for fingerprints. Investigators say the left thumbprint was a match for Sherrill.

He was charged with two felony counts of possession of stolen goods, deputies say. The trailer had been reported stolen from a business in Alexander County, according to authorities.

Lt. Tim Johnson of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said it was the fifth time in the past three years that a case had been cleared by the use of fingerprints.
