The Charlotte area figures to be well-represented Monday night when No. 1-ranked Florida State plays No. 2 Auburn in the Bowl Championship Series title game.
Auburn sophomore linebacker Kris Frost (Butler High) and Florida State sophomore punter Cason Beatty (Olympic) didnt play against each other in high school, but theyll be on the same field at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
Perhaps theyll play key roles in a game matching the unbeaten Seminoles (13-0) who barely have been tested on their way to a possible third national championship and the Tigers (12-1), whose unlikely victory against Alabama already is part of college football lore.
Frost, who has 52 tackles, including six for a loss, knows the Auburn defenses main task is keeping Seminoles quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston in check.
We know what we have to do with him, said Frost. Weve got to contain him, get pressure on him. But hes a great player.
Beatty has developed into an effective punter for the Seminoles, averaging 40.8 yards, with 11 landing inside the 20.
When you come to Florida State, this is the kind of game you expect to play in, said Beatty.
