LINCOLNTON A Lincoln County couple has been charged with filing a phony report about a residential break-in and then submitting an insurance claim, authorities say.
The Lincoln County Sheriffs Office said Scott Anderson Nazworth and his wife Rebecca, each 37, were charged this week after detectives determined the burglary report was fake.
Investigators say the Nazworths reported the break-in Nov. 30 at their home in the 100 block of Springwood Drive, near Denver. Deputies say Scott Nazworth told them he and his wife returned from a Thanksgiving weekend trip to Memphis and found their residence had been burglarized.
Items they reported stolen, deputies said, included a safe with a coin collection, two diamond rings and $150 in change; and a PlayStation; a tool set; and other items.
Deputies say Nazworth filed an insurance claim but later canceled the claim.
Investigators say they searched the residence later and found, in a closet, the items reported stolen.
Scott Nazworth was charged with felony insurance fraud and conspiracy and misdemeanor filing a false police report. Rebecca Nazworth was charged with felony conspiracy.
