New book makes chalkboard paint more relevant

By Nicole Gregory
Orange County Register

Chalkboard paint is one of those art supplies that is so versatile, it actually inspires creativity. It comes in many colors, dries quickly and can be applied to all different kinds of surfaces. And for people with a talent for making crafts, chalkboard paint is heaven-sent. It can be used for making signs, tags for potted plants, kids’ coat hooks, dining table place-card holders, storage-box labels and much more. Kids can have fun with it safely, too.

The more you know about chalkboard paint and how it works, the more successful your projects will be.

For basic and advanced tips, there’s the book called “DIY Chalkboard Crafts: From Silhouette Art to Spice Jars, More than 50 Crafty and Creative Chalkboard Paint Ideas” by Lizette Schapekahm (Adams Media, $19.99).

With lots of photos and ideas, this is a guidebook for anyone ready to plunge into chalkboard paint projects – from the simple to the complex.
