Normal operations again for CMC-Mercy

Officials at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy say they resumed normal operations Thursday after shutting down some activities after a water line break Wednesday evening.

Kevin McCarthy, a spokesman for Carolinas HealthCare System, said Thursday that inpatient procedures were normal again at the hospital in Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood.

CMC-Mercy had suspended accepting new patients after a sprinkler pipe burst and flooded rooms on the fifth floor.

Eight patients had to be moved.

The hospital resumed accepting all but cardiac patients by midmorning Thursday. Once cleanup was completed in a water-damaged cath lab, the hospital resumed cardiac procedures, too.

Hospital officials were trying to determine what caused the break. It was unclear whether it was related to recent frigid temperatures.
