York ATM stolen; found later, but cash is missing

CLOVER York County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for the person or people who apparently rammed a vehicle into the front of a store and then drove off with an ATM.

The cash machine was discovered hours later in Gaston County, but authorities say the $6,000 inside the ATM was missing.

Deputies responded to an alarm shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday at Lake Wylie Mini Mart, on S.C. 274 near Clover. They found damage to the front of the building, and merchandise and bricks pushed onto the floor inside the store.

When the store owner arrived, he said the cash machine was missing and said it had been bolted to the floor.

Investigators say the ATM was found on Bud Wilson Road near Gastonia, but the money was gone.

Deputies say they plan to check surveillance video.
