Today’s traffic: Truck wreck clogs I-77 northbound

Traffic on I-77 and the Brookshire Freeway is clogged Friday afternoon due to a wreck on northbound I-77.

Police report a tractor-trailer has wrecked near Interstate 85 (mile marker 13). At 2:15 p.m., cameras showed traffic backed up more than 3 miles into the uptown area.

In addition, traffic on the Brookshire Freeway is blocked from getting on I-77. Backups stretch about 1 mile on the outer loop of the Brookshire Freeway.

Motorists can expect delays for the rest of the afternoon commute, apparently.

At 2:15 p.m., there also is a wreck on northbound I-85 in Cabarrus County. The wreck is near Exit 55 (N.C. 73), and traffic is snarled for about 2 miles.

Wilkinson Boulevard bridge: Emergency repair work has reduced traffic to one lane in each direction at the Catawba River, on the Mecklenburg-Gaston county line. It is unclear how long the lanes will be closed.

New light on West Tyvola Road: A new traffic signal will begin operating at 9 a.m. today on West Tyvola Road at City Park Drive. Motorists are urged to use caution in that area for a few days, until everyone is accustomed to the light.
