Lenoir police charge 2 with battery theft

Lenoir Police say they have charged two men in connection with the alleged theft of more than $16,000 worth of railroad batteries.

Timothy Blain Chaney Jr., 35, and Eric Allen Crowe, 25, each of Lenoir, were arrested Thursday, police say.

Investigators say officers on patrol noticed a vehicle parked behind Aldred Electric, in the 1300 block of College Avenue. Officers say they found Chaney and Crowe sitting inside the vehicle.

While questioning the men, police say, they learned that Crow had entered the building and taken 32 batteries. Police say Crow then got Chaney to help him load some of the batteries into their vehicle.

The two men have initial court dates scheduled Monday.
