Charlotte crowd braves rain in March for Life

Observer Staff Reports

A crowd estimated at 150 people braved a chilly rain Friday and participated in the annual March for Life in Charlotte’s uptown.

The event is sponsored by March for Life Charlotte, a group opposed to abortion.

Marchers started shortly before midday at the Catholic Pastoral Center, on South Church and Morehead streets, and walked to the square at Trade and Tryon. There, they chanted, “What are we marching for? Life!”

The March for Life takes place annually in January, marking the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision on Jan. 22, 1973. That ruling paved the way for legalized abortions in the United States.

Friday’s March for Life started with Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in south Charlotte, then continued with the uptown event.

The Rev. Fidelis Moscinski, a Catholic priest, spoke briefly to the crowd at the uptown square.
