Providence Day at Charlotte Christian, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.: These schools are separated by almost 2 miles . Everybody knows everybody and every time these two play, the gymnasium is sold out. This is one of the fiercest rivalries in North Carolina. What a way to kick off conference play.
Gaston Day at United Faith, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.: The Falcons finish a big week with a rivalry game for first place in the conference. United Faith (13-4, 3-0 SPAA) hosts national power Quality Education from Winston-Salem Monday at 6:30 p.m. Gaston Day (11-8, 1-0) has won three straight.
Anson Senior at Weddington girls, Friday, 6 p.m: Anson (13-1, 2-0 Southern Carolina) has won 13 straight games. Weddington (13-3, 2-0) was the preseason conference favorite, led by All-American Stephanie Watts.
North Mecklenburg at Hough, Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Both teams are ranked in the top 10 of the Observers Sweet 16 poll. North Meck (13-1, 4-1) has won five straight games and trails Hough (11-3, 5-0) by a game in the MECKA 8. Its still early, but a Hough win could be the difference in the Huskies winning at least a share of the league title.
