Statesville police warn of scam caller

Statesville officials are warning local businesses of a scam caller who’s been posing as a city utilities employee and threatening to cut off their utilities if they don’t pay their bill immediately.

“This is a scam,” city spokeswoman Nancy Davis said. “Do not provide any credit card or personal information to the caller. The City of Statesville does not conduct business in this manner.”

Davis said the scammer called numerous businesses Thursday morning.

“The calls are coming from an 800 number,” she said. “Efforts to call back the number have not been successful.”

Anyone who receives such a call should report it to the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406.
