at Checkers (17-18-1-35)
Time Warner Cable Arena, 7 p.m.
The Checkers, who have won three straight, will play three games in the next three days, beginning with West Division leader Texas on Friday and Saturday. Charlotte split a two-game series with the Stars two weeks ago at Time Warner Cable Arena. A win on Friday would bring the Checkers to .500 on the season for the first time since Nov. 7. Since Dec. 1, the Checkers have gone 10-6-0 and as of Thursday are seven points out of the eighth and final playoff spot. The Hurricanes returned Zach Boychuk and Brett Sutter to Charlotte on Saturday and they are both expected to play. Boychuk recorded four points in nine games in Raleigh, while Sutter notched two in five appearances After missing two games with an infection, newly acquired Greg Nemisz should be back, as well as rookie defenseman Danny Biega, who has missed the past 11 games. Texas has four of the AHLs top 10 scorers this season in Travis Morin (50 points), Colton Sceviour (40), Chris Mueller (34) and rookie Curtis McKenzie (33). Likely out for Checkers: Sean Dolan, Nicolas Blanchard, Jared Staal.
