Watauga woman arrested after standoff

BOONE A federal task force that included Mecklenburg County law enforcement officers ended a standoff Thursday by arresting a woman wanted on drug and firearms charges, authorities say.

The Violent Offenders Task Force of the U.S. Marshals Service joined the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office in arresting Frances Calhoun Yancey.

Authorities say they were searching for Yancey after an investigation. The search took them to a residence in the 100 block of Seven Oaks Lane near Boone.

Police say Yancey barricaded herself inside the residence as law enforcement officers arrived, but she surrendered about two hours later. She was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and manufacturing, selling and distributing methamphetamine.

The Violent Offenders Task Force is a fugitive apprehension team that includes officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, the N.C. Department of Public Safety, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
