Due to expected frigid low temperatures this week, Fifth Street Shelter Ministries in Statesville has agreed to provide temporary shelter for any Iredell County resident needing relief from the cold.
Iredell County Emergency Management contacted Fifth Street Shelter Ministries to provide the temporary shelter, Emergency Management Director David Martin said Tuesday.
Fifth Street Shelter Ministries is at 1421 Fifth St.
Anyone needing transportation to the shelter should contact the Iredell County Emergency Communications Center at 704-878-3039.
According to the National Weather Service, one of the gravest dangers of winter weather is wind chill, Martin said. Animals are also affected by wind chill, he said.
If you must go outdoors, Martin said, wear a hat and gloves and dress in layers.
