LAKE WYLIE It took nearly a decade, but Shoppes at the Landing center is fully open for business.
Crossfit Lake Wylie opened last week as the first ever tenant of the space at 221 Latitude Lane. Echo Attic opened a week earlier beside Crossfit, in suite 104. The center also includes Lake Wylie Pharmacy, Salon 108, H&R Block, Nail Palace, Elite Combat Defense Tactics, Papa John’s and Lake Wylie’s post office.
Head trainer Nick Frega said Friday there were about 40 people per day in Crossfit’s first week open. They’re running a special where guests can try out the facility free through the end of the month.
“They can come as much as they want,” he said.
Crossfit is 5,500 square feet. Six classes per day run Monday through Friday, with one Saturday morning. All workouts run as classes with trained instructors.
Frega said there’s a perception of Crossfit training that it’s only for elite athletes since the workouts can lead someone that way.
“A lot of it is just average people who like to have fun when they work out,” he said.
The new business will have a better idea how it’s going next month.
“A lot of it is people who’ve had an interest but have never really done it before,” Frega said of initial interest. “We really didn’t know what to expect members-wise. I think we’re a little ahead of what we might have expected.”
Also looking to gain momentum is Echo Attic, which opened the first week of January.
“We had the coldest, wettest week ever, and it was right after Christmas,” said owner Linda Watkins.
Watkins already had Echo Consignment Boutique in Landing Station. In the new year, she added Echo Attic opened nearby in Shoppes at the Landing. The two stores are a short walk from one another. The boutique focuses on upscale clothing, jewelry, shoes, accessories and handbags. Echo Attic will have high-end home decor.
“This store is larger,” Watkins said of Echo Attic, “so we’re putting all of our half-price clothing in here. The other store is bursting at the seams.”
Echo Attic offers 60-day consignment. It’s open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Watkins said she’s excited now that the Shoppes at the Landing building is full.
