A Gaffney man was killed late Thursday night in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 85 in Cherokee County, authorities say.
The wreck was reported about 9:40 p.m., and it forced the shutdown of I-85 southbound for a few hours.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler identified the victim as Brannon Keith Harrison, 38.
Fowler said Harrison was either driving or riding in a 2012 Dodge pick-up truck that struck the rear of a car near Exit 102. The truck overturned after the collision, and both Harrison and another man in the truck were thrown from the vehicle.
The truck landed on the median cable. Fowler said neither man in the truck was wearing a seat belt.
“We are still trying to determine who was driving the pick-up truck at the time of the crash,” Fowler said. He said an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Fowler also said it appears as if the truck was speeding at the time of the crash.
