The American Red Cross, along with Mecklenburg County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management, opened a warming center Friday for anyone who needs to escape the cold.
The center will stay open until noon Saturday, at 618 N. College St. in the Mecklenburg County Homeless Resource Center.
The center will have cafeteria-type seating. Beds and cots won’t be provided.
Weather conditions and the needs of the community will be assessed on Saturday to determine whether to extend the center’s hours.
Available Charlotte shelter accommodations include:
• Salvation Army Women’s Shelter, 534 Spratt St., for women and children. Extra capacity is available.
• Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, 1210 N. Tryon St. Extra capacity is available.
• Men’s Urban Ministry/Room At The Inn. On Friday, 197 beds are available; on Saturday, 226 beds.
