Here are conditions on area roads, as reported by the N.C. Department of Transportation, the N.C. Highway Patrol, area police departments, and other sources:

INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS

I-77 ... Mostly wet throughout the distance from Chester County north to the Virginia line. However, some patches of snow and ice remain on the shoulders.

The HOV lanes north of Charlotte, which were slick Wednesday morning, are now wet.

I-85, Cleveland County ... Mostly wet, although there are some patches of snow and ice in the shoulders.

I-85, Gaston County ... Mostly wet.

I-85, Mecklenburg County ... Mostly wet. Ramps have been cleared.

I-85, Cabarrus County ... Wet, with some patches of slush in the shoulders.

I-85, Rowan County ... Mostly wet.

I-485 ... Some wet spots, but snow and slush have been cleared.

I-277 ... Mostly wet.

MAJOR MECKLENBURG ROUTES

Albemarle Road ... Wet in spots, but snow and ice has melted.

Brookshire Boulevard (N.C. 16) ... Mostly wet.

Independence Boulevard ... Mostly wet, with snow and ice in the shoulders. Motorists on the Independence Freeway should be careful because plows have pushed snow against the median.

Monroe Road ... Wet.

North Tryon Street ... Wet.

Pineville-Matthews Road (N.C. 51) ... Mostly wet.

South Boulevard ... Wet.

South Tryon Street ... Wet.

W.T. Harris Boulevard ... Wet.

Wilkinson Boulevard ... Wet.

MAJOR SECONDARY ROUTES

Carowinds Boulevard ... Wet, with some slush on the shoulders.

Gilead Road, Huntersville ... Wet.

Idlewild Road ... Wet, with slushy spots from Harris Boulevard out to I-485.

Lawyers Road ... Wet, with a number of slushy spots.

Morehead Street ... Mostly wet.

Park Road ... Wet.

Sardis Road ... Wet, with some slushy spots in shaded areas.

Sardis Road North ... Wet, with some slushy spots in the median. The portion of the road near Independence Boulevard has been cleared of ice.

Statesville Road ... Wet.

Woodlawn Road ... Wet.

ANSON COUNTY

Main routes ... Mostly wet.

Secondary roads ... Wet with some patches of snow and ice.

ALEXANDER COUNTY

State routes ... Wet, with some icy spots on the shoulders.

Secondary roads ... Wet with icy spots.

CABARRUS COUNTY

U.S., state routes ... Wet, with some icy patches.

Secondary roads ... Mostly wet, with some icy patches on hills and in shaded areas.

CATAWBA COUNTY

Steve Miller, superintendent of Hickory’s streets department, said crews used about 150 tons of salt and 200 tons of sand late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

He said he expects “a good deal of refreezing” Wednesday night and early Thursday, so crews will be working again.

I-40 ... Mostly wet.

CLEVELAND COUNTY

State, U.S. routes ... Mostly wet.

Secondary roads ... Mostly wet.

GASTON COUNTY

State, U.S. routes ... Wet.

Secondary roads ... Wet with some patches of snow on the shoulders.

LINCOLN COUNTY

State routes ... Mostly wet.

Secondary roads ... Mostly wet.

RICHMOND COUNTY

State, U.S. routes ... Wet, with some patches of snow and ice, especially on the shoulders.

Secondary roads ... Some patches of snow and ice.

ROWAN COUNTY

State, U.S. routes ... Mostly wet.

Secondary roads ... Mostly wet.

UNION COUNTY

State, U.S. routes ... Mostly wet.

Secondary roads ... Mostly wet, with patches of snow and ice on hills and in shaded areas.
