A Lincolnton man has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison after being convicted this week of DWI, according to prosecutors in Catawba County.

Aaron Burl Barkley, 34, was convicted in Catawba County Superior Court in connection with a May 2012 arrest in Maiden.

Authorities said Barkley had a blood alcohol level of .11 (.08 is the legal limit) when he was caught allegedly trying to drive through a DWI checkpoint on Island Ford Road in Maiden.

According to prosecutors, Barkley had previous DWI convictions in May 2005 and February 2008 in Lincoln County and January 2008 in Catawba County.

Judge Eric Levinson sentenced Barkley to 23 to 37 months in prison, authorities said.
