Saturday’s Charlotte-area college basketball games for Feb. 1

Georgia Tech (11-10, 2-6) at Wake Forest (14-7, 4-4)

Noon, Joel Coliseum (FSCR)

The Deacons have a good opportunity to avoid taking a two-game ACC losing streak into their Tuesday night game against No. 17 Duke ... Wake Forest saw its 13-game home winning streak end Wednesday in a loss to No. 2 Syracuse, but the Deacons are taking on a Yellow Jackets team that has lost two straight and seven of their last 10 games. Bill Kiser

South Carolina (8-12, 1-6) at Mississippi (14-5, 5-2)

1:30 p.m., Smith Coliseum

The Gamecocks snapped their six-game SEC losing streak by beating Texas A&M on Wednesday ... They’ll have a tougher time against Ole Miss, which saw its five-game winning streak end with a loss to Tennessee, leaving the Rebels tied with Kentucky for second in the conference standings, two games behind No. 3 Florida. B.K.

Clemson (13-6, 4-3) at Florida State (13-7, 4-4)

4 p.m., Tucker Center (ESPN2)

The Tigers need a win over the Seminoles to break out of their two-game losing streak and remain in the upper half of the ACC standings ... Despite the recent skid, Clemson still boasts one of the nation’s toughest defenses (No. 2 in points allowed at 56.1 per game). Florida State has lost two straight and three of its past four games, but all of those were on the road ... The Seminoles are 7-1 on their home court this season. B.K.

The Citadel (4-19, 0-8) at Davidson (11-11, 7-1)

4 p.m., Belk Arena

The Wildcats wrap up a three-game homestand by playing the Bulldogs, who have lost 11 consecutive games and reside at the bottom of the Southern Conference standings ... Davidson has won four straight, including a crushing 43-point victory over SoCon frontrunner Chattanooga on Thursday that left the Wildcats a half-game out of the conference lead. B.K.

Winthrop (10-9, 4-3) at High Point (8-12, 4-3)

7 p.m., Millis Center

The Eagles have a chance to take a step up in the Big South standings, but so do the Panthers, as both are one game back of Coastal Carolina and Campbell ... High Point has been on a roll lately, winning four of its past five games ... Winthrop has lost two of its past three. B.K.

Florida International (11-10, 3-3) at Charlotte (13-7, 4-3)

7 p.m., Halton Arena (WCCB)

Charlotte managed to beat Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic on Thursday despite shooting 33.3 percent … The 49ers overcame that by making 80 percent of their free throws and committing just 11 turnovers … The 49ers are looking for guard Denzel Ingram (who has missed his last 10 3-pointers) and center Mike Thorne (averaging 3.0 rebounds over last four games) to end slumps … The Panthers lost at Marshall 80-68 Thursday, with senior forward Tymell Murphy scoring 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting … Murphy averages 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. David Scott

Johnson C. Smith (13-7, 5-5) at Shaw (6-13, 4-5)

7:30 p.m., Spaulding Gym

The Golden Bulls could find themselves in a tougher game than the records show against the Bears ... While Shaw has lost five straight CIAA games, four of those came by two points or less. Meanwhile, J.C. Smith is trying to bounce back from a 12-point loss to Winston-Salem State on Thursday that snapped its two-game winning streak. B.K.

Queens (8-9, 6-7) at Tusculum (3-16, 2-11)

8 p.m., Pioneer Arena

The Royals have a good opportunity to break out of their recent slump – losing two straight South Atlantic Conference games, and four of their last five – even thought the Pioneers have shown signs of life recently ... Tusculum has won two of its last three games after losing 13 straight. B.K.
