↑ Mary Corbin Burlingame, Charlotte Latin field hockey: Named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association national academic squad. Burlingame is a two-time all-CISAA player. The national team honors high school seniors who have an unweighted GPA between 3.5 and 4.0.

↑  Mark Dreibelbis: Assistant commissioner of the N.C. High School Athletic Association, from Charlotte, won the 2014 National Federation of high schools coach educator of the year award.

↑  Northside Christian boys: Up one spot to No. 6 in MaxPreps national prep basketball poll.

↑  Providence Day boys: Chargers, No. 2 in the Sweet 16, beat rival Charlotte Catholic 81-77 Saturday to secure its first back-to-back 20-win season since 1999-2000. Chaston Raye led the team with 21 points. He is the sixth Charger to lead Providence Day in scoring this season. Providence Day has won 10 straight and was unbeaten in January.

↑  Rusty Reigel, Charlotte Latin boys: 30 points and 12 rebounds for Davidson recruit in Saturday’s 72-67 CISAA win against Cannon School.

↑  Tomas Hilliard, Charlotte Soccer Academy/Providence Day: Invited to train with the Costa Rican Under-20 national team this month. Hilliard, whose mother was born in Costa Rica, leads the U18 Charlotte Soccer Academy team with eight goals in 12 game. He has commited to Stanford.

Tuesday’s featured basketball games

Ardrey Kell boys at Providence, 7:30 p.m.: Providence (3-16, 1-8 SoMeck 8 4A) is having a tough season, but there’s nothing the Panthers would like to do more right now than upset their archrivals and ruin the Knights’ title hopes. Ardrey Kell (15-4, 8-1) trailed Berry by one game heading into Monday’s big matchup with Olympic (17-2, 7-2). The Ardrey Kell-Providence rivalry is one of the best in Mecklenburg County.

United Faith boys at Gaston Day, 7:30 p.m.: United Faith is tied with Victory Christian atop the Southern Piedmont Athletic Association with two games to play. Gaston Day is one game back. If the Spartans can stop United Faith, they’ll have a shot at a league title Friday – if they beat Hickory Christian and United Faith beats Victory Christian on homecoming.

Charlotte Country Day boys at Charlotte Latin, 7:30 p.m.: Both teams are 2-2 in league play, good for second place behind Providence Day (20-3, 5-0). This heated rivalry will all but eliminate the loser for the championship hunt.
