Using the WeMo app, available on Android and iOS, you can turn the Crock-Pot Smart Slow Cooker on or off, receive reminders, or adjust temperatures as you see fit. WeMo also controls other enabled devices, including a baby monitor, a motion detector and outlet and light switches. (MCT)

Despite their low-maintenance appeal, slow cookers have to be dealt with at some point. The Crock-Pot Smart Slow Cooker is perhaps the brainiest vessel for stewing meats and other foods.

This one, priced at $100, uses an app by WeMo app to give you control over cooking from an iOS or Android device. Use the app to turn the slow cooker on or off, change the temperature or receive reminders.

The design isn’t radically different from standard models, but its shiny silver finish and black control panel, lid and base help it stand out. www.belkin.com
