Investigators are asking for help in finding a suspect in the theft of chainsaws, climbing gear and other equipment in Iredell and Wilkes counties.
Joshua Russell McHargue, 20, of Wilkes County is most recently wanted in the Jan. 8 theft of climbing gear and seven chainsaws from two Asplundh Tree Expert Co. trucks that were parked at a store on Wilkesboro Highway near Love Valley in northern Iredell.
The equipment, valued at about $4,000, was pawned and the money traded for narcotics, Iredell County sheriff’s investigators said Friday.
Wilkes County sheriff’s detectives seized several items from pawn shops and McHargue’s home, while Iredell County detectives said they matched the serial numbers to the chainsaws stolen from the Asplundh trucks.
Detectives also said they matched the serial number from a leaf blower to one stolen during a break-in at the Wilkes-Iredell Fire Department.
McHargue worked for Asplundh until he was let go in late December, investigators said.
McHargue also faces four counts each of felony larceny and breaking into a motor vehicle in Wilkes County.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3180 or Iredell/Statesville Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340.
