Art in the Capitol

Kendall Carter, a junior at Gaston Day School, will have a graphite drawing in the N.C. General Assembly Youth Art Exhibit.

Kendall’s piece, a drawing of a costume dress, shows high contrast by using darks and lights. She went to the costume closet in the school’s drama room and found the dress. Her work will represent Districts 10 and 43 in Gaston County.

Student art from across the state will be displayed in the north lobby of the N.C. General Assembly legislative building in downtown Raleigh. The yearlong exhibit, a joint effort between the General Assembly and the N.C. Art Education Association, will begin in May and end next February. Students, parents, teachers and principals of selected artists can attend an opening reception with House members in May.

Winning entries from other Charlotte-area districts will be announced soon.
