Snow continues to fall in downtown Rock Hill as motorists cautiously brave the roads.

Here’s a county-by-county look at road conditions, weather and closings and cancellations:

MECKLENBURG ...

Weather ... Light snow and sleet. 3-4 inches on ground.

Roads ... Major roads are passable but snow-covered; other roads are snow-covered and treachers.

Key closings ... Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, private schools, all colleges and universities closed Thursday.

Other closings ... Courts are closed Thursday. No word yet on government offices, libraries and trash pickup.

Other notes ... CMPD responded to at least 150 wrecks between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday.

ALEXANDER ...

Weather ... Light snow, mid 20s.

Roads ... Snow-covered in spots.

ANSON ...

Weather ... Light sleet falling, mid 20s. Snowfall ranges from 3 inches in the north to 5 inches in the south.

Roads ... Main routes are slushy to icy. Secondary roads snow-covered and slippery.

Key closings ... Anson County Schools closed Thursday and Friday.

Other notes ... Sheriff’s office reporting numerous wrecks in southern part of county.

BURKE ...

Weather ... Light snow, lower 20s. Little accumulation as of early evening.

Roads ... Mostly dry, with some icy spots on secondary roads.

CABARRUS ...

Weather ... Light snow, low 20s. Snow ranges from 2.5 inches in Concord to 4 inches near Harrisburg.

Roads ... Main roads are passable but mostly snow-covered. Secondary roads are snow-covered.

Key closings ... Public and private schools.

Other notes ... State of emergency declared across the county, and City of Concord opened its Emergency Operations Center. Police report numerous wrecks across the county.

CALDWELL ...

Weather ... Light snow, lower 20s.

Roads ... Snow-covered in spots.

Key closings ... Public and private schools.

CATAWBA ...

Weather ... Light snow, lower 20s. About 1-2 inches of snow as of early evening.

Roads ... Becoming slippery, with conditions expected to worsen overnight.

CLEVELAND ...

Weather ... Light snow and sleet, mid 20s. Snowfall of about 2 inches across the county.

Roads ... Most roads are snow-covered and slippery. I-85 is passable but slippery.

GASTON ...

Weather ... Light snow, middle 20s. Accumulations range from 2.5 inches in Gastonia to about 4 inches in Belmont.

Roads ... I-85 and U.S. 321 mostly slushy with some snow spots; secondary roads snow-covered and slippery.

Other notes ... State of emergency declared across the county. Numerous wrecks reported by Gastonia and Gaston County police.

IREDELL ...

Weather ... Light snow, especially north of I-40. Accumulations of about 3.5 inches near Mooresville, decreasing north of there.

Roads ... Snow-covered and slippery across the county. I-77 reported to be “very slick.”

Other notes ... Numerous wrecks reports across the southern part of the county. Some road closures near Mooresville during the afternoon.

LINCOLN ...

Weather ... Light snow, mid 20s. Accumulations range from 4 inches near Denver to 2 inches near Vale.

Roads ... Main roads passable with snow-covered spots; secondary roads treacherous.

Other notes ... Dozens of wrecks reported by emergency communications, especially close to Lake Norman.

MONTGOMERY ...

Weather ... Light snow, middle 20s. Accumulations of about 2 inches.

Roads ... Snow-covered, with secondary roads treacherous.

Key closings ... Public schools.

RICHMOND ...

Weather ... Light snow, 30 degrees.

Roads ...Slushy to snow-covered.

ROWAN ...

Weather ... Light snow, lower 20s. Snowfall of 2 to 3.5 inches.

Roads ... Snow-covered and slippery, although I-85 had one passable lane.

Key closings ... Public schools; Catawba College.

RUTHERFORD ...

Weather ... Cloudy, lower 20s.

Roads ... Some slick spots reported in the southern part of the county.

STANLY ...

Weather ... Light snow, mid 20s. Accumulations of 2-3 inches.

Roads ... Snow-covered and slippery.

UNION ...

Weather ... Light sleet, lower 20s. Accumulations of about 6 inches across the county.

Roads ... Snow-covered and slippery across the county.

Key closings ... Public and private schools; South Piedmont Community College.

Other notes ... Numerous wrecks reported, especially in the Weddington-Waxhaw area.

WATAUGA ...

Weather ... Cloudy, lower 20s.

Roads ... Main roads are dry; secondary roads have some icy spots.

WILKES ...

Weather ... Cloudy, mid 20s.

Roads ... Some slippery spots.

Key closings ... Public schools.

South Carolina

CHEROKEE ...

Weather ... Snow, upper 20s.

Roads ... Snow-covered and slippery, including I-85.

Other notes ... Travel discouraged across the county.

Roads ... Snow- and ice-covered across the county, including I-77.
