Here is a look at weather, road conditions and key closings in counties around the Charlotte region (as of 7:30 a.m. Friday):

MECKLENBURG

Weather: Temperatures near 30 degrees   with snow and ice frozen.

Roads: Main roads are cleared but have numerous icy patches. Secondary roads have snow and ice patches. Residential streets are snow-covered and ice-covered and nearly impassable in spots.

Key closings: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and most other schools.

Other notes: CATS buses resume a normal schedule. Trash pickup canceled for the rest of the week. Flight schedules resume at Charlotte Douglas International Airport canceled.

Mint Museum and libraries are closed.

ALEXANDER

Roads: Most roads snow-covered and slippery.

Key closings: Schools closed.

Other notes: Alexander County YMCA opens at 10 a.m.

ANSON

Roads: U.S. 74 and U.S. 52 have been cleared but have numerous icy patches. Other roads are snow-covered and treacherous.

Key closings: Schools.

BURKE

Roads: I-40 has been cleared but has patches of ice. Other state and federal routes have been cleared but have numerous icy patches. Other roads snow-covered and difficult to negotiate.

Key closings: Public and private schools closed.

Other notes: Emergency officials advise residents to stay home until later in the morning. County government will open at 10 a.m.

CABARRUS

Roads: I-85 has been cleared but has icy patches. U.S. 29 and U.S. 601 have been cleared but have some patches of frozen slush and ice. Other major routes have travel lanes open. Rural roads and residential streets are snow-covered and slippery.

Key closings: Public and private schools are closed.

Other notes: County government opens at noon, but landfills and recreation activities are closed. The library opens at noon.

CALDWELL

Roads: Most roads are snow-covered and slippery.

Key closings: Public and private schools, and Caldwell Community College.

Other notes: County government opens at 11 a.m.

CATAWBA

Roads: I-40 and U.S. 321 have been cleared but are slick in spots. Other roads are snow- and ice-covered and slick.

Key closings: Public and private schools.

Other notes: County government opens at 10 a.m. Newtown town offices open at 9:30 a.m.

CLEVELAND

Roads: I-85 and U.S. 74 have been cleared but have slippery spots. Other state and U.S. routes have been cleared but have numerous icy patches. Other roads are snow-covered and difficult to negotiate.

Key closings: Public and private schools.

Other notes: The court system opens at 10 a.m., and county government opens at 11 a.m.

GASTON

Roads: I-85, U.S. 74 and U.S. 321 have been cleared but have some icy patches. Other roads are snow-covered and slippery.

Key closings: Public and private schools.

Other notes: Courts and Gaston Transit are shut down today.

IREDELL

Roads: I-77 and I-40 have been cleared but have numerous icy patches. Other roads are snow-covered and very hazardous. Roads in the northern part of the county are nearly impassable.

Key closings: Public and private schools. Mitchell Community College.

Other notes: Government offices open at 11 a.m.

LINCOLN

Roads: Most roads are snow-covered, although one travel lane is open in each direction on U.S. 321 and N.C. 16.

Key closings: Schools.

Other notes: Government offices open at noon, and the court system opens at 12:30 p.m.

McDOWELL

Roads: Major routes are passable, but secondary roads are snow-covered and very slippery.

Key closings: Public schools and McDowell Tech.

MONTGOMERY

Roads: Major roads have one travel lane open in each direction. Secondary roads snow-covered.

Key closings: Public schools and Montgomery Community College.

RICHMOND

Roads: State and U.S. routes have been cleared but have icy patches. Other roads have numerous snow-covered spots.

Key closings: Public schools.

Other notes: County government offices are closed. The courts open at 11:45 a.m.

ROWAN

Roads: I-85 and major U.S. routes have travel lanes open but are slippery in spots. Secondary roads snow-covered and icy.

Key closings: Public schools. Catawba College. Livingstone College.

Other notes: Transit system is shut down. The courts open at 10 a.m., and government offices open at 11 a.m. The East Rowan YMCA opens at noon.

STANLY

Roads: Most roads are snow-covered and icy.

Key closings: Public schools, Stanly Community College.

Other notes: The Stanly County YMCA opens at noon.

UNION

Roads: U.S. 74 and U.S. 601 have travel lanes open. Other roads are snow-covered and slippery.

Key closings: Public and private schools, South Piedmont Community College.

WATAUGA

Roads: Major roads are passable but snow-covered; other roads are snow-covered and treacherous.

Key closings: Public schools.

WILKES

Roads: Snow-covered and slippery.

Key closings: Public schools.

South Carolina

CHEROKEE

Roads: I-85 is in good shape. Otherwise, roads have some snow-covered spots.

Key closings: Schools.

CHESTER

Roads: I-77 is in good shape. State routes have been plowed and are passable. Other roads are ice-covered and slippery.

Key closings: Schools closed.

Other notes: Government offices open at 1 p.m.

CHESTERFIELD

Roads: Main roads have numerous icy patches. Secondary roads are hazardous, with snow and ice.

Key closings: Schools closed.

LANCASTER

Roads: Major routes have been cleared but have numerous icy patches. Secondary roads are difficult to negotiate.

Key closings: Public schools, USC-Lancaster.

Other notes: City of Lancaster offices are closed today.

YORK

Roads: I-77 is in good shape. Most state and U.S. routes are passable but have many icy patches. Residential streets remained slippery.

Key closings: Public and private schools.

Other notes: The county library system is closed.
