Union commissioners to hear resident’s redistricting report

Union County commissioners will deal with a controversial school redistricting plan again at their meeting Monday night.

The school board is considering whether to approve countywide redistricting as a way of handling overcrowding; such a move would impact about 5,800 of 41,800 students.

In early February, commissioners made a surprise $3 million offer to pay for mobile classrooms to help avoid redistricting. The school board plans to discuss that deal Tuesday.

On Friday, commissioners amended their agenda for their Monday night meeting to include an informational presentation by a resident, who will discuss a lengthy analysis urging alternatives to doing redistricting now, such as using mobile classrooms.
