TCM to air tribute to Shirley Temple Black

By Patrick Kevin Day
Los Angeles Times

TCM plans to air a marathon of Shirley Temple Black’s most popular films on March 9.

The former child star and later U.S. ambassador died Feb. 10 at age 85.

The marathon, which begins at 4:30 p.m., will start with “Heidi,” her 1937 film based on the Swiss children’s story.

Other films in the lineup include “Stowaway” and “Bright Eyes,” the 1934 film that featured her singing “On the Good Ship Lollipop” and paved the way for Shirley Temple Development to be set up at 20th Century Fox.

“The Little Princess,” “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “A Kiss for Corliss” and “That Hagen Girl” will also be part of the marathon.

“A Kiss for Corliss,” which was released in 1949, was Temple’s final starring role and also her final film appearance.

The year after its release, Temple married Navy intelligence officer Charles Alden Black and moved with him to Washington, D.C., leaving acting behind.
