Crews kept busy with pothole cleanup

By Cleve R. Wootson Jr.

Road crews closed two lanes of Interstate 485 on Monday afternoon to fix large potholes that formed during last week’s winter storms.

The inner loop of I-485 was closed from 1 to 3 p.m. between Interstate 77 and South Boulevard.

It’s a part of I-485 that has caused traffic headaches for years. The highway is being expanded by one lane in each direction between South Boulevard and Rea Road. The contractor conducting the expansion is also repairing the potholes.

Pictures on the N.C. Department of Transportation’s website showed chunks of road missing in both lanes. Cracks could be seen in other lanes.
