She makes Buddy Bench happen

- RIVER GATE ELEMENTARY
Nora and family.

In response to her teacher’s request to research current events, River Gate Elementary first-grader Nora Baker shared with her class a story entitled “2nd-Grader’s Cure For Playground Loneliness: A Buddy Bench.”

Nora read her article and said, “I would never want any of my friends to feel lonely. I wish we could have these benches right here at our school.”

After notifying Principal Kimberly Odom of her wish, Nora and her family donated and installed three buddy benches at the school on Feb. 1 to prevent any child from feeling lonely at recess. She’s seated with her mom, Beth Baker, right, and her teacher, Melissa Carpenter, left. In the back row are her grandparents Ed and Lori Baker, and her father, Tim Baker.
