Matchup to Watch

Al Jefferson vs. Zach Randolph: These two might not literally guard each other, but they are arguably the two best low-post scorers in the NBA, as far as moves, fakes and touch. Kindred souls in a lost art.

Observations

•  Marc Gasol’s return to the Grizzlies has been similar to Jefferson’s to the Bobcats. Memphis was 13-4 (entering Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers) since Gasol came back from a severe left knee sprain.

• Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley and Bobcats power forward Josh McRoberts played on an Indianapolis-based AAU team that also featured Greg Oden. Conley’s father coached that team and is now an agent representing Conley and McRoberts.

Tap-ins

• The Grizzlies are the only NBA team the Bobcats have not previously played this season. They meet again in Memphis on March 8.

• This is the second of back-to-back home games for the Bobcats.

Original Bobcat Brevin Knight is now the Grizzlies’ television analyst.
