Person dies in ATV crash in west Charlotte

A man died while riding his ATV in west Charlotte Saturday evening.

About 5 p.m., Marvin Davis, 35, was driving a Yamaha ATV in a wooded area off of the 10000 block of Dillard Valley Road, according to a news release from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. He was riding down a grassy hill at a high speed, apparently trying to jump over a creek bed. The ATV struck the embankment on the other side of the creek, and Davis was thrown off the ATV, the release said.

Medic pronounced Davis dead at the scene.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and detectives are investigating the crash as an accident. Anyone who saw it happen is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
