Hope for a Day

After an especially hectic and challenging week, I felt really discouraged. The presentation I scheduled five months ago cancelled and while the reason was valid, it was just another disappointment atop of many… Road-weary and worn down, I needed a boost, some small sign to lift my tired soul…

I shuffled through the latest stack of student surveys and at the bottom, I found an unmarked envelope I’d forgotten about. Inside, there were letters written to me from a group of students I’d never met. One day last month, their teacher read Brian’s Story aloud and asked them to write me a message…

“Dear Mrs. Garlock,

Your story today really impacted me. We have heard a lot of stories about texting and driving but it is different when it comes from so close to where you live. I want to say that I am sorry for your loss. Listening to your story today got me thinking about what it would be like if I had lost either my dad or brother. I can’t relate to you on how it feels to lose someone that way, but I can only imagine how hard it would be to get past that. I know it must have been hard through the holidays, but I hope so much that your holidays had some good memories in them as well. I don’t usually tell people that I will be praying for them because most of the time I only pray once and then stop, but I can sincerely say that I will be praying for you. It reached me. I will right now pledge to never use my phone while driving. Thank you for sharing your story!

Sincerely,

B.”

Nearly every letter was similar to this… I sat in our sun room and wept.

Unexpected inspiration, custom packaged just for me…

Heartfelt words of wisdom and encouragement from unknown teens, filling me with enough hope and resolve to take on another day…

Sometimes I forget…I don’t always have to be the one to deliver the message. Although I try my best, I cannot be everywhere or reach everyone. It’s okay, though, because He can, and in this instance, He clearly did…

Wishing you blessings and hope…tg
