Bigger Plan

From the very day we lost Brian, I firmly believed there was something more…something bigger, a grand, infinite plan so large and intricately designed it was far beyond my limited vision, imagination and comprehension.  I knew then, as I know now, that Brian completed his work in this world and that in doing so, he opened a door for me to commence with mine…

About this time five years ago, I wrestled with an idea born during the many sleep-deprived nights of that first year and from a desperate need to do something about the tragedy that destroyed my life.  I stepped out on faith and have been continuously amazed, humbled and quite frankly, dumbfounded by the path this mission of the heart has taken…

The latest bend in the road caught me off guard and left me speechless…

From the first 2,500 bracelets and article published in May 2009 to the ‘9 Investigates’ story aired on Monday night, it is obvious to me that the hand of someone far greater than I orchestrated this design and brought us to this place.

I share Brian’s Story at every opportunity, so it is no secret that I am a staunch advocate against the use of cell phones while driving.  I never dreamed that by doing so, Brian would become the name and face associated with the current effort to strengthen NC’s existing law banning texting while driving.

Let me state clearly: the impetus for this change did NOT originate with me; Action 9 anchor Natalie Pasquarella began her investigation over a year ago, well before I recognized and accepted the fact that in order for meaningful change to occur, I had to be willing to do more.

The people I’ve met and connections I’ve made over the last five years all came perfectly together and now here we are…

I’m not politically savvy; I’m not wise to the ways of the political process because I’m a grassroots girl.

I know many people will oppose this change and they won’t be voicing their opinions kindly…In fact, it’s already started…

Deep down, I also know the chances of this passing are slim…

But if nothing else, the conversation has begun and the first steps have been taken.

I absolutely believe when the time is right, it will happen.

In the meantime, I will keep on keeping on, doing what I do while praying for strength, wisdom and resilience during the firestorm to come…

>Wishing you blessings and hope…tg
