Tea party’s Mike Lee endorses N.C. candidate Greg Brannon

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Greg Brannon has won the endorsement of Utah Sen. Mike Lee, a champion of the tea party.

Lee called Brannon a “constitutional reformer.”

“Greg’s a constitutional conservative and he’s someone who’s excited and eager to apply timeless constitutional principles to address some of our country’s timely problems,” Lee told the Observer.

Brannon, a Cary physician, is running against House Speaker Thom Tillis and six other GOP candidates hoping to take on Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan.

Asked whether he was concerned about last month’s jury verdict that ordered Brannon to pay two investors $250,000 for providing false information about a failed start-up, Lee said he wasn’t familiar with the case.

Along with Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas, Lee has emerged as a leader of tea party conservatives in Congress.

He praised Brannon’s stands on health care, education and other issues.

“All those things are going to be part of the fast-emerging conservative agenda,” Lee said.
