Charlotte Police ask for public’s help in capturing suspect in fatal shooting

Police have identified a suspect in a fatal southwest Charlotte shooting that happened late Saturday afternoon and are asking the public to help find him.

William Moreno, 41, is wanted in connection with the death of Jose Luis Rivera Vedal, 32, police said Monday.

Moreno is described as a Hispanic male, about 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds. Police say he may using the aliases of Alex Posada or Leon Estven. Moreno should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Police said Vedal was shot to death inside a home in the 9000 block of Windsong Drive at 5:47 p.m.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots, then called police. Paramedics pronounced Vedal dead at the scene, Medic spokesman Lester Oliva said.

Police have said Vedal and Moreno knew each other and were fighting shortly before the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
