Funeral plans set for Union Co. school board member

Funeral services will be Friday for for John Crowder, who had served on school boards in Union County for 31 years and died last weekend.

Funeral arrangements have been set for John Crowder, a longtime Union County school board member, who died Sunday.

Services for Crowder, 77, of Monroe, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church in Monroe. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m.

Interment with full military honors will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe. Crowder served in the Army from 1959 to 1961.

Crowder had served on the county school board, and a predecessor board in Monroe, for 31 years. Friends and family have praised Crowder’s years of service and his dedication to improving education for all children. Adam Bell
