Couture for a Cause features cocktail dresses, evening gowns by Luis Machicao

By Oliva Fortson

Members of Charlotte’s fashion community helped organize Inspiration & Impact: Couture for a Cause, a first-time runway show to benefit the Autism Foundation of the Carolinas. It featured clothes from Charlotte-based designer Luis Machicao, a native of Peru who was named the Best Designer at Tiffany’s Paris Fashion Week 2014, an event that gives both young and established designers a platform to show their collections in Paris.

Guests joined Marjorie Serralles-Russell, a founding board member of the Autism Foundation of the Carolinas, for cocktails at LaCa Projects Gallery, a space dedicated to promoting Latin American art and culture in the U.S. The runway show featured models in cocktail dresses and evening gowns. Proceeds go to help families in our community living with autism.

Next up for the foundation is its annual Rock & Roast fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. March 28 at the Palmer Building, 2601 E. Seventh St. Tickets are $125 per person and include acoustic music, a light supper and beverages.
