Carolina Panthers free agent cornerback Captain Munnerlyn confirmed Wednesday hes visiting the Minnesota Vikings this week the first of three visits for the sixth-year player.
Munnerlyn also has trips scheduled to Tampa Bay and the New York Jets, according to a league source. Munnerlyn said at the end of last season he hoped to stay with Carolina, but the Panthers have yet to offer him a contract, the source said.
Munnerlyn, the Panthers seventh-round pick in 2009, had three sacks and two interceptions both of which he returned for touchdowns last season.
The Panthers saw free safety Mike Mitchell sign with the Steelers on Tuesday. Two other defensive backs corner Drayton Florence and strong safety Quintin Mikell also are free agents, but are not expected to return.
In other free agency news Wednesday, Panthers free agent tackle Bruce Campbell signed a one-year deal with the Redskins.
Campbell, who came to Carolina via a trade with Oakland, played five games in two seasons with the Panthers. He missed all of 2013 following season-ending shoulder surgery.
