ROCK HILL A Rock Hill teenager was shot with a flare gun after he told police five teens claiming to be members of a gang attacked him and a friend after they got off the school bus Thursday evening, authorities say.

At about 8 p.m., police were called to a Highland Street home after a homeowner reported that while cooking, she looked out her window, saw a group of young men fighting, heard a gunshot and then saw a bright light flash, according to a Rock Hill police report. Police were later sent to a Eastwood Drive home, where a teenage boy, 15, told officers about four boys attacked him and a friend, 14, when they got off the school bus after leaving from an after school sports program. He was able to identify some of his attackers before his father took him to Piedmont Medical Center to receive treatment for his injuries.

Police met with the other victim at his Steele Street home, where he told officers the boys yelled “600,” an alleged gang operating in the area, the report states. The boy told police one of the assailants carried what he perceived to be a sawed-off shotgun. He and his friend ran, but their attackers caught them. The boy told police his attackers pushed him against a car, grabbed onto his neck and began to squeeze. The assailants wore masks, the boy told police, before adding that he was shot in the leg with a flare gun.

He was left with a bloody mouth and nose, a small burn on his left leg, a cut on the left side of his face and a cut inside his mouth. He was also dizzy, police reported. Officers were unable to find any of the suspects, but continue to investigate.
